A Love for Neighborhood Italian
Located in East Sacramento, Bocce is a neighborhood market and deli known for housemade pastas, pizzas, sandwiches, and seasonal vegetable and fruit sides.
The restaurant is a more casual counterpart to Chef Joe Pruner’s fine dining career, applying the same techniques at a more approachable price.
A market case carries dry pasta, sauces and meats made in house, sold to take home and cook that night. The dining room seats about five tables, with more going in outside.
The menu shifts daily with what’s harvested at local farms.

Meet the Chef
Joe Pruner grew up in Sacramento and started cooking as a teenager, catering events out of The Kitchen. He left for San Francisco to work the line at Maven and Wayfare Tavern, then came home in 2013 for good.
Back in Sacramento, he built a career across some of the city's well-known kitchens: Esquire Grill, chef de cuisine at Empress Tavern, OBO, Mulvaney's B&L, Woodlake Tavern. He became executive chef at Allora and, later, culinary director at Bear Flag Farm. He was recently named one of 4 chefs for the 2026 Tower Bridge Dinner.
The idea behind Bocce was simple: a fun, low-key spot for the neighborhood — somewhere to grab a sandwich, a pizza, or a bowl of pasta, or pick up a few pounds of housemade dry pasta to finish at home for dinner.
